I know climate change action in Dunedin intimately through my own experiences - I have spent 4 years as a Dunedin based climate change advocate with Generation Zero. I am a former community representative on the DCC environment strategy committee - Te Ao Turoa. I have a master of politics where I wrote on political participation of youth.
Through my experiences, one thing became abundantly clear. We are going to have to rethink the way that we move about, and where we live. Because where we live prescribes how we can access the city, and how we desire to move about prescribes where we can live. That is why we need better cycle ways, better pedestrianisation, and better public transport - that connects us to energy efficient, safer, denser housing. While sending less waste to the landfill. When we do that - we secure my generation a sustainable future.
